Rosacea/Skin Redness
From characteristic redness and visible blood vessels to the persistent bumps that can appear on the skin, Rosacea presents several key challenges. At Bella Plastic Surgery, you will find valuable insights into the conditions causes, triggers, and effective treatment options. Our goal is to empower you with the knowledge and support required to navigate your way to an improved skin health and regain your confidence.
WHAT IS ROSACEA?
Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that occurs primarily on the face, resulting from increased blood flow to the affected area. The characteristics of Rosacea are skin redness, dilated blood vessels and may also include red pimple-like bumps on the cheeks, nose, chin, or forehead. Over time, the redness tends to become redder and persistent and blood vessels will become larger and more visible. In addition, pores in the area affected with Rosacea can be enlarged.
There are several factors that can cause a ‘flare-up’ of Rosacea, including alcohol, sun exposure, exercise, certain foods, and hormonal changes within the body
ROSACEA TREATMENT
Queen of the Skin has been treating Rosacea for over 12 years, with the use of our state-of-the-art laser technology. Our laser device is designed with a small pen-tip head, shaped to specifically target Rosacea.
Whilst there is currently no known cure for Rosacea, laser treatment, skin needling and Light Emitting Diode (LED) Therapy will significantly reduce the overall facial redness.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED?
Skin Inflammation and blood vessels can be a chronic issue that can invade the upper and deeper layers of the skin. Given the complexity of Rosacea, several treatments will be required, the number of which will be determined by the reduction in the overall redness of the skin and the decline in visible blood vessels.
BENIFITIS OF ROSACEA TREATMENT
Most laser or IPL devices use a large headpiece that shrinks the blood vessels which may temporarily reduce skin redness. However, within the coming weeks to months, blood vessels return and skin redness returns.
At Bella Plastic Surgery, we use specialised laser technology designed with a pen-like laser head that targets the blood vessels one-by-one to ensure that the underlying redness will be cleared by this unique process.
Skin needling is suggested as an adjunct treatment, to be performed immediately after the laser treatment. Skin needling causes light ‘trauma’ to the skin that will facilitate the production of immune cells in the treated area that will clean-up dilated blood vessels within the skin. In addition, skin needling will reduce pore size and will provide a much clearer and more even skin tone.
LED therapy is a non-invasive light-based skin treatment that rejuvenates the skin by improving skin tone and texture. LED therapy is also effective in reducing skin inflammation associated with Rosacea.
HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?
We allow 30 minutes for your appointment as this will allow time to complete a patient Registration Form, receive a consultation and discuss the procedure and post-care instructions. This is a walk-in walk-out treatment that improves your Rosacea within your very first treatment.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I REQUIRE?
Improvements in your Rosacea condition will be seen shortly after your first treatment. However, this is an iterative treatment process, and a regular course of treatments is required to optimise results.
IS THE TREATMENT PAINFUL?
The treatment is often termed ‘uncomfortable’ and is tolerated well among most age groups. With that said, if you would like anaesthetic, topical and local anaesthetic options are available to numb the skin.
WHAT WILL MY SKIN LOOK LIKE AFTER TREATMENT?
Following your treatment there will be some redness and possible swelling on and around the treated areas for up to 72 hours. In addition, a temporary scab may form where large blood vessels have been treated. This is a natural part of the treatment process and the scabbing will usually fall off within 7-10 days. Once the scab has fallen off, the area will be red (due to new capillary formation) and over several months, the redness will dissipate.
POST-PROCEDURE CARE
You will be requested to send an image of the treated area 3 days post treatment. This is to ensure that the treated area is healing well and that you have kept the skin hydrated well. Of course, if at any time you have questions or concerns, you should contact our clinic to arrange a face-to-face appointment.
During the healing process, you can wear makeup to conceal the treated area and recommendations will be provided regarding the best types of makeup to be used.
You will be provided with a Post-Care Form along with verbal instructions.
