What is Augmentation Revision Surgery?

Breast Augmentation Surgery is a common cosmetic surgical procedure. So, it’s no wonder that Breast Revision Surgery is also common. This can be requested early after the initial surgery due to an unsatisfactory result, or several years later due to changes in appearance or patient views that have occurred over time.

It’s every surgeon’s job to ensure a realistic potential result is outlined to each patient along with the potential complications. It is also every surgeon’s job to do their utmost to achieve that result. Every busy surgeon will have a small number of patients where the results are not ideal and thus, they would benefit from some form of revision surgery.

Of course, Dr Dona is not immune to patients that would benefit from revision surgery, and he will always do his utmost to ensure that his patients are pleased with the results. This of course does assume that patients are compliant with their standard post-operative follow-up and have realistic expectations given their original breast size and shape. For difficult issues, seeking a second opinion is always a good idea and is something that Dr Dona will happily suggest.

Why would someone consider Breast Revision Surgery?

There are many reasons why a person would be unhappy and require breast revision surgery:

  • Too big or too small (in the patient’s opinion)
  • Inadequate cleavage or sideboob
  • Generally poor shape
  • Implants settling in a poor position
  • Implants bottoming out
  • Rippling
  • Double bubble
  • Inadequate implant pocket
  • Capsular contracture
  • Changes in breast tissue
  • Ruptured implant
  • Changes in patients’ views

When the initial surgery also included a Breast Lift (Mastopexy) procedure, the potential causes and problems are magnified.

Breast Revision Surgery Considerations

Whatever the reason, there are numerous issues that your surgeon needs to take into account when planning any form of revision surgery. More often than not, the revision surgery is far more difficult than performing a standard Breast Augmentation.

Understanding your concerns and performing a careful assessment is the first step toward creating your surgical plan.

Dr Eddy Dona is a highly experienced Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon who has dedicated his career to Plastic Surgery since 2007.

Potential Complications

All surgical procedures carries risks. Please read more about general potential surgical complications here >

It is impossible to provide a list of all the specific potential complications because revision surgery may involve many different things. Depending on your circumstances, your surgery may involve Breast Implants, Breast Lifts, Breast Reductions, Breast Implant Capsulectomy or Fat Transfers.

Each of these operations come with specific potential issues, which are magnified in a revision case. The specific complications for each of these procedures can be found on the relevant pages.
