Laser Xanthelasma Removal Sydney

Xanthelasma (zan-the-las-ma) is a harmless yellow growth made of cholesterol. It typically appears around the eye area. Xanthelasma can vary in size, but always has defined borders. Using a cutting-edge dual laser with a small pen tip head, we can specifically target and remove xanthelasma on the spot, without the need for surgery or downtime.

Laser Xanthelasma Removal Procedure

The xanthelasma removal procedure uses a high-tech dual laser to specifically target the areas without causing damage to surrounding tissue. No surgical procedures are required.

Your appointment will be 30 minutes long; however, the laser procedure takes just minutes. During this time, you’ll also complete paperwork, discuss your xanthelasma with your practitioner and be instructed on all post-procedure requirements.

Typically, you’ll only require one treatment. Removing your xanthelasma with laser will occur immediately. In rare instances, patients are left with pigment that lies deep under the skin and need a second treatment to remove it.

Post Xanthelasma Removal Results

After your treatment, you can expect some redness and possible swelling in the area for up to 72 hours. During this time, a temporary scab will form; this is a natural part of the treatment process. The scabbing typically falls off within seven to 10 days. Once the scab has gone, the treated area will be red, due to new capillary formation to heal and repair the area. This redness should dissipate slowly over the next couple of months.

Is Laser Xanthelasma Removal Painful?

Usually, anaesthesia is not required for Laser Xanthelasma Removal. It is mainly described as ‘uncomfortable’ and not painful. If you prefer anaesthesia, though, we can offer you topical and local anaesthetic options to completely numb the area before your treatment commences.

Post Procedure Care

We will give you detailed written post-care instructions and verbal instructions on caring for your treated areas.

To ensure that your treated areas are healing well and that you’ve kept the scab intact, we will ask you to send us a picture of the treated areas on days three, weeks two and six post-treatment.

During the healing phase, you are allowed to wear make-up. We’ll provide recommendations on the best type of make-up to use.

If required, we will give you a topical cream created for post-injury skin. This cream will provide the best nutrients to optimise the healing process. We also offer LED (Light Emitting Diodes) treatment to help accelerate healing.
