Who is a suitable candidate for an Open Book Tummy Tuck™ (Abdominoplasty)?

Can I have an OBTT™ (Abdominoplasty) after weight loss surgery or weight loss medications?
The best time to have an OBTT™ (Abdominoplasty procedure) is when weight has been stable for a minimum of six months.
Do I have to stop taking my weight loss medication?
- If you’re currently using weight loss medication from the GLP-1 receptor agonist class (or dual GLP-1/GIP agonists), and wish to continue the medication long term, you can still undergo surgery safely.
- In fact, evidence shows that pausing longer-acting GLP-1 medications may impact stomach emptying and worsen metabolic control.
- However, specific pre-operative precautions must be followed to minimise risk during anaesthesia.
- This includes a strict fluid diet 24-hours before your procedure, then fasting from ALL fluids and solids for 6 hours before surgery.
- This approach reduces risk of gastric contents being retained, which can lead to complications during general anaesthesia.
- Your team may delay the procedure if you fail to follow the fluid diet.
Is muscle repair always included?
Muscle repair is often part of the Open Book Tummy Tuck™ (Abdominoplasty procedure), particularly in patients with diastasis rectus (separation of the abdominal muscles), which frequently occurs after pregnancy or significant weight loss.
Where is the Open Book Tummy Tuck scar placed?
The Open Book scar is three part and the incisions are placed:
- As a horizontal line low on the abdomen, just above the pubic area, and designed to sit below the line of underwear and swimwear.
- Another vertical scar to form an anchor shape.
- A third scar that extend horizontally along the entire chest, in the lower breast fold.
How long is the recovery period for an Open Book Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty procedure)?
- On average, patients will require a minimum two-night stay in hospital following their Open Book Tummy Tuck surgery.
- On the day of discharge from hospital, you will attend our clinic for your first post-operative HeaLEd session – these in-clinic appointments will continue for several weeks, if not longer.
- Most individuals can generally drive after three weeks you can drive.
- Most individuals can generally return to home-based work or light office work.
- After six weeks – you can return to life as usual which includes physically intensive work or exercise such as weights training. You will need to listen to your body and ease into it.
- No heavy lifting for six weeks.
