Bra Lipectomy Sydney Before & After Gallery
The Bra Lipectomy, also known as an Upper Body Lift, is a procedure designed to remove excess skin and fatty tissue. It is typically performed on patients following significant weight loss, pregnancy, or age-related skin changes.
What is a Bra Lipectomy?
A Bra Lipectomy is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and associated fat from the upper and mid-back areas, including the region around the bra line. The procedure is commonly performed to address skin redundancy and improve comfort following significant weight loss, pregnancy or ageing.
Dr Dona will discuss the different variations of the Bra Lipectomy procedure, which may include:
- Bra Lipectomy (Upper Body Lift or Truncoplasty): This approach involves a circumferential or near 360-degree scar, typically extending from the back to the front of the chest wall beneath the breast area.
 - Bra Line Back Lift: This technique involves a surgical scar pattern limited to the back region, with no scar extending to the front of the chest.
 - Reverse Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty): This procedure focuses on the upper abdominal wall and lower chest area. It represents the ‘front half’ of the Bra Lipectomy, with the scar confined to the front and not extending to the back.

The outcomes shown are only relevant for these patients and are not a guarantee that you will have similar results, even if you have a similar body type or shape. Results may vary due to many factors including an individual’s genetics and lifestyle.
Am I a suitable candidate for a Bra Lipectomy?
A Bra Lipectomy may be suitable for individuals who have developed excess or redundant skin along the upper back or bra line area, often following significant weight loss through bariatric surgery, medicationor lifestyle changes. This excess skin may not respond to exercise alone and can cause functional concerns such as skin irritation, hygiene difficulties or discomfort in clothing.
A Bra Lipectomy generally requires a minimum two-night hospital stay and is performed under general anaesthetic at Westmead Private Hospital or Norwest Private Hospital.
Bella Plastic Surgery is located in Bella Vista in the Hills District, but also frequently service interstate and international patients. If you’d like more information about requirements and recommendations for interstate and international patients, please visit our page here.

What is the recovery like for a Bra Lipectomy?
A Bra Lipectomy is a three to four-hour procedure performed under general anaesthesia. Patients will typically stay in the hospital for a minimum of two nights, sometimes longer.. Showering is usually possible with assistance while in hospital.
Most patients will see a physiotherapist the day after surgery to assist with gentle mobilisation.
On the day of discharge, patients attend their first HeaLED Post-Surgery Treatment at our clinic in Bella Vista. This treatment uses specific light-based energy to stimulate cellular activity and support the body’s natural healing processes. Patients generally continue with regular HeaLED sessions over the following two to five weeks, depending on individual factors such as recovery progress or travel arrangements. For example, patients returning interstate within three weeks of surgery may have a tailored plan to accommodate their schedule.
Dressings are applied to cover the surgical area and are removed during the first post-operative appointment, usually two to three days after surgery. Medical tape remains on the incisions for approximately one week. Stitches are dissolvable and do not require removal. Although in rare cases, a stitch may become irritated and require removal by nursing staff.
Patients are generally able to drive and return to office-based work after around three weeks. More physically demanding work, strenuous exercise, and heavy lifting should be avoided for at least six weeks, or until cleared by Dr Dona.
A compression garment should be worn continuously for a minimum of six weeks, as it plays a vital role in supporting healing and comfort during recovery.
Can you combine an Upper Body Lift with other procedures?
When an individual experiences significant weight loss, excess skin and tissue can remain on various areas of the body, commonly the arms, breasts, back, abdomen, and thighs.
It is therefore not unusual for patients to consider addressing more than one area during a single surgical procedure. Patients undergoing a Bra Lipectomy (Upper Body Lift) may choose to combine it with a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty), such as a Fleur-de-Lis Abdominoplasty or an Open Book Tummy Tuck™ (Abdominoplasty). Others may combine a Bra Lipectomy with procedures such as a Breast Reduction and/or Arm Reduction (Brachioplasty).
The most appropriate combination of procedures is determined after a thorough consultation, taking into account factors such as overall health, recovery considerations, logistics and financial planning. In some cases, a staged surgical approach may be recommended instead.
Will I need help at home after my Upper Body Lift (Bra Lipectomy)?
We recommend that you have someone available to assist you at home for at least the first week to help with general day-to-day care. If support from family or friends is not available, nursing transport and in-home nursing care can be arranged to help you during your recovery period.
How much swelling can I expect after my Upper Body Lift (Bra Lipectomy) surgery?
You will be fitted with a compression garment immediately after surgery to help manage swelling and support recovery. This garment should be worn continuously for at least six weeks, unless advised otherwise by Dr Dona, and swelling typically begins to reduce gradually within the first two weeks after surgery.
