How Much Does Breast Augmentation Surgery Cost?

Breast Augmentation Surgery is a cosmetic surgery procedure that involves placing silicone implants in the breast to give shape and volume. Also known as Breast Implant Surgery or Bilateral Augmentation Mammoplasty (BAM), the procedure is performed under general anaesthesia in a private hospital. Several factors contribute to the cost, which we’ll discuss in this article.

If you’d like more information about Breast Augmentation Surgery, please book an Initial Consultation with Dr Dona by calling 1300 373 662.

Why Do Women Have Breast Augmentation Surgery?

Breast Augmentation Surgery (breast implants) is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures throughout Sydney, Australia and across the globe. Women choose to have the procedure for various reasons, such as to:

  • Enlarge smaller breasts
  • Improve symmetry and breasts
  • Increased projection and fullness of the breasts
  • Enhance breast shape and volume after weight loss, pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Reconstruct a breast or breasts after mastectomy or injury

Breast Implant Costs

There is a vast range of breast implants available, such as smooth or textured implants, round or teardrop, and high, moderate or low-profile. After assessing your body and discussing the options, Dr Dona will choose the implants that are right for your body shape, preferences and objectives. Dr Dona only uses the best quality implants from companies with a proven track record.

Surgeon’s Fee

The surgeon’s fee is the payment to Dr Dona for performing the surgery. Part of your total fee paid to Bella Plastic Surgery is to cover your surgeon’s fee.

When choosing a surgeon, it’s essential to understand that not all surgeons or their fees are the same—particularly regarding breast implant surgery. In Australia, any doctor with a medical degree can perform Breast Augmentation Surgery. No specialist qualifications, skills, training or expertise are required to operate as a ‘Cosmetic Surgeon’. Consequently, some doctors advertise cheap cosmetic surgery prices as they haven’t spent years acquiring advanced credentials.

In contrast, a Plastic Surgeon is a doctor who has undergone eight to 12 years of additional, extensive, supervised specialist qualifications. The doctor must then pass comprehensive written and oral exams. Only after such rigorous training does one achieve the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons recognised ‘Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery’ qualifications.

Dr Eddy Dona is a highly experienced specialist Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). In almost twenty years as a specialist Plastic Surgeon, Dr Dona has dedicated a large part of his practice to performing and perfecting breast and body reconstructive procedures. A meticulous practitioner, he consistently refines his surgical skills, maintaining a steadfast commitment to delivering excellence in plastic surgery. His fees are reflective of his qualifications, skills and experience.

Theatre & Hospital Fees

The theatre fee is for the operating theatre in the hospital or day surgery. The longer your time in theatre, the higher the cost. Most breast augmentation patients can go home on the same day.

An additional hospital fee will be required for those who wish to have overnight accommodation in the private hospital. This also contributes a significant portion of your overall cost. Part of your total fee paid to Bella Plastic Surgery is to cover your theatre and hospital fees.

Anaesthetists Fee

Your procedure will require a general anaesthetic. You’ll have a specialist anaesthetist who will administer your anaesthetic, monitor your well-being throughout the procedure and manage your medication requirements after the surgery. Part of the fee for Bella Plastic Surgery will go towards this specialist care.

Will Medicare or My Private Health Insurance Cover My Breast Augmentation Procedure?

Unless your Breast Augmentation procedure is for reconstructive purposes after a medical illness, such as breast cancer (which warrants a Medicare item number), you will not receive a rebate from Medicare. Similarly, you will only receive a rebate from your Private Health Insurance fund if your condition is deemed medical and you have a Medicare item number.
