MediLUX LED

What is MediLUX LED treatment?

Our MediLUX light-emitting diode (LED) technology is used either as a standalone treatment or in conjunction with other treatments to treat a range of skin conditions, including:

  • acne: reducing and preventing acne-causing bacteria and associated acne breakouts
  • spots: removing age spots, sunspots and discolouration
  • redness: improving skin redness conditions such as rosacea
  • signs of ageing: stimulating collagen and elastin to reduce superficial wrinkles, neck lines and other signs of ageing.

At Bella Plastic Surgery, we also use MediLUX LED in the treatment and management of postoperative wound healing. Not only does the LED aid speedy recovery following cosmetic surgery—it is also used to improve scar formation, providing you with the best aesthetic results following your surgical procedure with Dr Dona.

How does MediLux LED treatment work?

Our MediLUX technology utilises 1,500 powerful LEDs in the following colours: blue, green, yellow, red and near-infrared. Each light wavelength targets specific skin conditions, such as acne-causing skin bacteria, facial redness, pigmentation, uneven tone, neck lines, wrinkles and signs of ageing.

Postoperatively, the red and near infrared LED lights increase blood circulation and lymphatic drainage and stimulate collagen production to assist in wound healing.

What is Red Light?

One of the most used electromagnetic spectrums of light is red light. Red Light has a wavelength of 633 nanometres, and it passes through the outermost layer of the skin (known as the epidermis), to reach the deeper layer of the skin known as the dermis.

In the dermis, the red light stimulates fibroblasts – the specialised cells that produce collagen in the skin. And, as collagen is the protein that provides strength to heal and keep your skin firm, tight and wrinkle-free, this is the perfect layer to be targeting when it comes to anti-aging and post-op recovery.

How does red light work?

Within every cell of the body there is an energy powerhouse known as the mitochondria which are responsible for giving cells the energy to do all the things they are required to do.

The mitochondria convert oxygen into energy molecules known as ATP (adenosine triphosphate) which provide energy for the fibroblasts to keep making new collagen and elastin.

LED Light enhances the cellular production of ATP with 633nm of red light, increasing cellular energy and influencing the fibroblasts to produce more collagen to firm, tighten, heal and improve the overall appearance of the skin.

What is Near-Infrared Light?

Near-Infrared Light works in a very similar way to 633nm red light; however, near-infrared light has a longer wavelength on the electromagnetic spectrum of 830nm. This provides the deeper layers of the skin and tissues of the body with some serious therapeutic benefits and provides an effective solution for aging skin.

When used in a clinical setting, Near-infrared light stimulates fibroblast cells, creating new collagen and elastin, and rejuvenates fatigued cells to get back into action! Post-operatively near-infrared light stimulates wound healing and blood flow in the subcutaneous layer of the skin, reducing skin and tissue inflammation.

In addition, with near-infrared light, you gain all the regenerative powers of sunlight without the counter-productive damaging effects of UV radiation.

Are MediLUX LED treatments suitable for me?

MediLUX LED treatments are comfortable and suitable for all skin types. During your consultation, your clinician will discuss a treatment plan tailored to your individual skin concerns.

Can MediLUX LED treatments be combined with other aesthetic treatments?

Absolutely and we encourage it! MediLUX LED treatments are restorative by nature and will optimise results when paired with other aesthetic skin treatments.
